Beyond the Familiar

Beyond the Familiar

Between Reality, Abstraction and Imagination

Bringing together sixteen artists from South India, this exhibition explores the intersecting territories of reality, abstraction and imagination through a wide range of contemporary practices. Rather than proposing a single stylistic direction, it embraces plurality, allowing distinct approaches to painting, sculpture, ceramics, textile-based practice and mixed media to exist in conversation with one another.

Featuring Bharathi Senthilvelan, Charanya Rajesh, Gukanraj, Hemalatha Senathipathi, Kayalvizhi Sethukarasu, N. S. Manohar, Priya Elayaraja, R. Jacob Jebraj, Ranjini Jacob, Rohini Mani, S. Michael Irudayaraj, S. Vijayaraghavan, Sajitha R. Shankhar, Selva Senthilkumar, Sipi Sakkaravarthi and Siva Murugan, the exhibition reflects the breadth of contemporary artistic practice emerging from southern India.

The exhibition has been coordinated by artist and educator S. Vijayaraghavan, who also participates as one of the sixteen exhibiting artists.
